President's Student Advisory Council on Diversity & Inclusion

Dear University of Maryland community:

The President's Student Advisory Council on Diversity & Inclusion has been selected. There were 112 nominations, 40 applications, and 18 selected to participate on the Council. The students selected for this Council represent a broad cross section of our campus community. A rich array of diverse backgrounds are represented by race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, low income, first generation, country-of-origin, and undergraduate and graduate students from a wide array of majors. The Council's work will be enriched by the many thoughtful perspectives about diversity and ways to create a more inclusive environment brought by these student leaders.

Following last semester's campus issues related to diversity and inclusion, compounded with local and national events, President Loh committed to establishing this Council. The mission of the Council will be to advise the President on the campus climate for diversity; to advise the President on the Diversity Strategic Plan; and, to bring forward student issues related to campus culture. President Loh will be joined by Michele Eastman, Kumea Shorter-Gooden and Linda Clement on the Council. The Council will meet four times this academic year, twice in the Fall semester and twice in the Spring semester.
