Dear University of Maryland community:

Today, Governor Hogan extended a 2% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) to state employees into the next fiscal year (begins July 1, 2015), funded by the $68M approved by the General Assembly.

UMD faculty and staff need and deserve the pay increase. We are very grateful to the Governor and the General Assembly.

Today, the University System of Maryland Board of Regents approved a system-wide tuition increase. It also approved a new model of differential pricing for majors in business, engineering, and computer science at the University of Maryland.

This model will be phased-in over four years. The differential will be entirely reinvested in these programs to enrich the students' educational experience, hire more professors, reduce class sizes, expand career services, increase seats for top in-state students, expand financial aid for students with need, and further elevate the standing of these highly-ranked programs of UMD so that they become—as the State expects of its flagship university—"equal to the best in the nation."
