President's Statement on DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program

Dear University of Maryland community,

The Trump Administration's decision today rescinded the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program and called on Congress to replace the 2012 executive order with legislation before it expires on March 5, 2018.

UMD financial actions in this public health crisis

McKeldin Mall

Under the Governor's directive, all Maryland residents must now shelter at home, except to leave for "an essential job or for an essential reason, such as obtaining food or medicine ... or other necessary purpose." Over one-half of the states are under a similar order. 
 
It is a reminder of our civic responsibility to keep ourselves and each other safe. Only then will we slow the spread of this pathogen that has upended our lives, shuttered wide swaths of the economy, and caused the number of unemployed workers to soar.

Transformational investment in UMD

Dear University of Maryland community,

I am pleased to announce an historic investment to build the future of the state's flagship university and contribute to the future of the State of Maryland.

It will transform access to, and the affordability of, a UMD education. These are core values of our land-grant heritage, and we must invest in our students for they are the future leaders of our society. It will endow faculty chairs and build state-of-the-art facilities to strengthen the excellence of our education, research, and innovation.

Progress Toward UMD Carbon Neutrality

Over the past decade, due to the inspired commitment of faculty, students, and staff, our campus has reduced carbon emissions by 27 percent, even as we grew by 11 percent.
