All Marylanders 16+ eligible for COVID vaccine

Letter from President Darryll J. Pines

By Darryll J. Pines

Dear Campus Community,

As we continue to fight this pandemic, getting vaccinated is a key factor in protecting ourselves and each other from COVID-19.

I am thrilled that Governor Hogan announced yesterday that beginning today, April 6, all Marylanders 16 and older are eligible to get vaccinated at mass vaccination sites. In addition, by next Monday, April 12, all Marylanders 16 and older will be eligible to schedule appointments and get vaccinated through all providers.

This means that all UMD faculty and staff, and all UMD students in Maryland over the age of 16 are now eligible and should pre-register. Options Include:

  • Mass vaccination sites: Pre-register at covidvax.maryland.gov or by calling 1-855-MD-GOVAX. Sites include the Greenbelt Metro Station, which is only a few miles from campus.
  • Hospitals, pharmacies, clinics and local health departments: Use the state’s “Find a Vaccination Clinic Near You” tool to find pre-registration information for sites across Maryland.

We strongly encourage every member of our community to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

Learn more about the importance of getting vaccinated from University Health Center Director Dr. Marinopoulos:

As Governor Hogan said, “Getting more people vaccinated as quickly as we possibly can is our absolute best defense against these variants, and it is the best way to win the long war against this deadly virus.”

Thank you for your continued compliance with the 4 Maryland guidelines, and please get vaccinated!

Sincerely,

Darryll J. Pines
