Dear fellow Terrapins,
On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, the Midterm Elections will determine the next set of leaders representing the interests of counties and states across the country. Newly elected officials will be making decisions that have a direct impact on our lives regarding social issues, economic policy, healthcare and education. Let's make a plan to vote.
I am proud that our student body consistently shows up at the polls and outpaces their peers. In the 2020 elections, 84% of registered UMD students voted. Let's aim higher this year; this is the time to make your voice heard beyond our campus.
As Election Day quickly approaches, I urge you to visit our 2022 election portal to find resources to get informed about candidates, find your polling location and make a plan to vote. If you are registered to vote in a state other than Maryland, find your state or local election office website for information about your state's election. On Election Day, voting must occur at a pre-assigned polling place based on residency. All Election Day polling places are open continuously from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Anyone in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
I said it on the first day of the semester, and I say it again today: Do not sit on the sidelines to see what happens next. Help create the world, community and university you want.
Sincerely,
