Remembering George Floyd

Administrative Leave, June 8, 2020

By Wallace D. Loh

Dear University of Maryland faculty and staff,

As our nation continues to grieve black lives lost, I stand with our University community to reaffirm that black lives matter. I want to restate that, as an institution, we must confront systemic racism, and via our teaching, research and public engagement missions, endeavor to advance racial equity and social justice.

In honor of the public memorial for George Floyd, the University will offer administrative leave on the afternoon of Monday, June 8, 2020, for any University employee who wishes to take time to remember his life. Additional information for supervisors will follow from University Human Resources. I encourage supervisors to continue to check in with their employees and be flexible with leave requests.

I would also like to remind our community of the many campus resources available for action and support.

In solidarity,

Wallace D. Loh
President, University of Maryland
