Red, White, Black and Gold

By Darryll J. Pines

Dear Terps,

Our university gives us so many reasons to be proud. Internationally-ranked academic programs. Amazing artists and groundbreaking researchers. Award-winning faculty. Extraordinary and caring staff. Together, we are channeling our collective excellence to take on the grand challenges of our time.

Our athletic programs instill pride for all of us, too. Over 500 outstanding student-athletes proudly wear the red, white, black and gold on fields and courts and tracks all season long. Their success is cheered on by our community here in College Park and by more than 400,000 alumni around the globe.

Tomorrow is College Colors Day. All over the country, college campuses will be wearing their school colors with pride as the college football season commences. Our own Maryland Terrapins kick off the season on Saturday against Towson at 3:30 p.m. at SECU Stadium. As a reminder, all faculty and staff may claim up to two free tickets to Saturday's game until noon tomorrow. Claim your free Maryland Football tickets here.

To commemorate College Colors Day, to show support for Maryland Football and all of our athletic programs, and to demonstrate our pride in our university, we are calling on our campus community—faculty, staff and students—to wear our colors proudly tomorrow, September 1 and on every Friday this year.

Red, white, black and gold. These are our colors. Let us wear them proudly. And let's make "Maryland Fridays" a new campus tradition. And, we hope to see all of you in SECU Stadium on Saturday to support Coach Locksley and the team.

Go Terps!
