Denouncing antisemitism and hate in all forms
March 30, 2026
Campus community,
Moments ago, UMPD Chief Mitchell informed the campus of an active investigation into an alleged hate crime. A since-deleted image that targets a Jewish member of our community was posted on social media, and it is absolutely abhorrent and unacceptable.
On behalf of the university, I would like to stress that we strongly condemn antisemitism and all acts of hate. They are inconsistent with our institutional mission and values as a community. We have extended support and other services to those impacted. UMPD continues investigating to determine who posted the message and to hold them accountable.
I remind every member of our community that if you see or hear hateful language or actions to report it immediately to UMPD. Also, a reminder that Bias Incident Support Services are available for any UMD students, faculty and staff who may be affected by incidents of hate or bias. The Counseling Center and Dean of Students Office are also available to support students.
Today marks the beginning of our SGA elections. These elections are student-run, online and, like every election, must take place according to applicable policies and procedures, while prioritizing the safety of our campus community.
Sincerely,
Darryll J. Pines
