Show your Maryland Pride on College Colors Day

Dear Campus Community,

Whether you’re a new or returning Terp, a student, alum, faculty or staff member, we all share a connection to the University of Maryland and to the community we have built together. For generations of Terps, that connection has been captured in two words. You hear them echoed by Terp alumni at our sporting events: Maryland Pride.

Tomorrow, Friday, September 4, campuses across the country will celebrate College Colors Day, a day dedicated to showcasing the pride and spirit we have in our universities. At UMD, we’re a community that proudly wears the colors of our state flag—red, white, black and gold—not just on game day, but as everyday attire. We carry our spirit all year, so we hope you’ll join us tomorrow by wearing your favorite Maryland gear. 

If you’re looking to add something new to your collection, the University Book Center recently added new UMD Diary of a Wimpy Kid merchandise, featuring drawings of Greg Heffley, the lead character from the beloved series created by UMD alum Jeff Kinney.

Maryland Pride, it seems, can be found even in a Wimpy Kid’s world.

And what better way to keep that Maryland Pride going than with the start of another Maryland Football season? The Terrapins kick off their season on Saturday, September 5, against Hampton at 8 p.m. at SECU Stadium. We hope to see our community join together to support the team as they take the field.

Students can attend Maryland Football games for free and request tickets in advance. Faculty and staff who missed the window to claim free tickets to this weekend's game can still claim two free tickets to the Terps' Homecoming game against Rutgers on Saturday, Oct. 17. Requests must be submitted by Monday, Oct. 12.

Throughout the year, let's continue our Maryland Fridays tradition by proudly wearing our colors every Friday. It's a celebration of everything that makes the University of Maryland a place we are proud to call home.
