Higher education investments and the 446th legislative session

The Maryland General Assembly recently concluded its 446th legislative session, and we are heartened at a continuing and strong commitment to higher education initiatives and infrastructure even with a challenging financial situation.

One of the privileges I hold as president is celebrating the remarkable achievements of our graduating Terps. This year's campuswide event on May 20, 2024, will honor graduates from summer 2023, fall 2023, and spring 2024. With great anticipation, I am thrilled to announce that our 2024 Commencement Ceremony speaker will be Governor Wes Moore.

Mirroring the state of Maryland’s ambition to be a leader in this domain, we are proud to announce the new Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland (AIM), dedicated to developing the next generation of artificial intelligence education, technology and leaders.

Task Force on Antisemitism and Islamophobia

On November 27, I announced several measures to help prioritize a safe and inclusive community at the University of Maryland, including the establishment of a Joint Presidential and University Senate Task Force on Antisemitism and Islamophobia. I am pleased to announce the membership of this important task force, comprising of students, faculty and staff who were nominated by campus colleagues.
